An Experiment in Spontaneity

By Published On: August 13, 2024

I want to share a story with you.

It’s a story that is a real world experiment.

About what life could look like for you.

If you lived by the principles of…

Trust and surrender.

Before I begin the story…

Here’s a little context.

This is not my story…

But a story of a coaching client of mine.

Often during my sessions I’ll present “Homework”

Which are exercises that usually come to me spontaneously.

They are things I ask them to do…

In order to apply principles we’ve discussing about.

One of the principles we had be tackling was trust…

Trust and surrender to a higher power.

The point of this exercise was to overcome…

The ego’s desire to control and dominate situations.

So how did we do it?

The exercise went like this…

STEP 1 —————————
Find a day with no obligations.

STEP 2 —————————
Select a handful of start locations and choose one at random.

STEP 3 —————————
Head to that location in the morning with a journal in hand. Take notes about patterns, numbers and anything else that is significant.

STEP 4 —————————
Once completed, use your intuition to find one person to speak to.

STEP 5 —————————
Tell this person that you’re on an adventure, and what the point of this is. Tell them that you’re looking for a place to go next and ask them where they think you should go.

STEP 6 —————————
Go to that place.

STEP 7 —————————
Repeat

That’s it.

Why was this the plan?

It was a way to create a controlled exercise…

That allowed for divinity to make the plan.

Through spontaneity.

Only if you trusted in it and surrendered to it.

While there’s so much to share about how her experience went and what she learned.

Here are some of the highlights

NEEDS WERE MET
—————————
Before leaving the house in the morning she was concerned about being hungry and started to eat a few cherries before leaving.

She then realized this was breaking the plan.

Instead, she decided to not eat and trust that she would be fed in the process.

She was then off to the first place.

I’m skipping over a bunch of synchronicities that happened here but…

After doing her thing at the first place

At the end of meeting the first person they asked….

“Have you eaten yet?” and decided to send her to a place to eat.

Not only did she get fed, and the divine plan made sure of it.

Remember those cherries?

She didn’t need them.

And the best part? The place she got sent to for food…

She LOVED the meal.

What would have happened if she did eat the Cherries?

Would the universe have sent her somewhere different because her needs of food had already been met.

Would she have settled for cherries when the universe was willing to offer her steak?

Who knows…

On to the next point.

CONNECTION
———————
At the second place she was unsure about who to connect with.

Until suddenly…

Someone approached her and asked about her food.

Along with the question…

“What made you come here”

An interesting question from a stranger I’d say…

Anyway…

This led to them talking for almost an hour. Sharing life stories and connecting on various levels. It was a vibe.

They had a lot in common and were going through similar things.

After chatting…

He then sent her to the next place.

Guess what…

He recommended the first place she actually came from.

What are the odds?

So she asked for another recommendation.

And the place he sent her made room for….

REFLECTION
——————
When arriving at the last place, it was also a magical way to end the day because it created a lot of room for self reflection.

It created room to consider how effortless this process was.

How times in the past where there was divine trust, things did work out and they were also fun.

And various other reflections.

These were emotional experiences.

Which is also a trait of divinity.

Where control makes you emotionless.

Trust allows you to feel.

These three themes were just a few points…

Of a very long day filled with very interesting synchronicities.

But the biggest takeaway she had from this experience was…

Everything happened…

Exactly how she would have wanted it to.

Without having to manipulate and control things.

She learned that control didn’t necessarily produce a different outcome.

It produced the same desired outcome.

In a much more stressful and exhausting way.

And often…

It produced a worse outcome than desired.

I share this example to amplify the message.

That one of the things we fear the most is giving up control.

The ego wants to die on that hill.

It’s power hungry.

But if you’re willing to sacrifice the ego on that hill.

You allow a new leader to take charge.

Your soul.

The divine energy.

This type of leader will make things happen for you in ways that just feel…

Effortless.

This is the magic of creation.

When you’re in tune with it.

There is flow.

When you go against it…

There is resistance.

Instead of trying to be the Salmon…

Swimming against the flow of water.

Be the Dolphin that is so in flow…

You’re doing cartwheels above the water.

As you saw…

This process was simple.

It’s something you can even try in your own life.

It doesn’t have to be a whole day.

You can invite divinity in small ways.

At a restaurant…

Ask the people around you what you should order?

On a vacation….

Throwaway the maps and planning.

Just ask locals where you should go next.

This is what life is about…

Joy doesn’t come from the things you have.

It comes from the experiences you create.

When yo accept that you are a co-creator.

You can let go of the how things are gonna work…

And instead focus on the what…

You want to work

It just takes a little bit of trust…

And a little bit of

Surrender.
